More change

As if my new job at the paper, and the rearranging of the furniture at work, and Biscuit's new day care weren't enough change for our family, we're also in the process of having our master bathroom remodeled.

Jeff and I bought our house in 2003, and I've hated our bathroom since the day we moved in. It had awful blue wallpaper with butterflies and flowers. The shower had gold trim with gold fixtures. The tub was a ginormous garden tub, also with gold fixtures.

We also had a popcorn ceiling that was stained from two separate leaks (one from the water heater, which we had to replace in 2004, and one from a pinhole in a pipe that happened while Jeff's parents were here this year).

The most hideous part of all? There was CARPET in our bathroom and water closet!

Here's what we'll have when they're done:
  • the carpet in the main bathroom and water closet will go away
  • 12-inch-by-12-inch tiles on the floor that look like stone
  • 6-inch-by-6-inch tiles in the shower in off-white (officially named Biscuit)
  • a rectangle tub with a tile shelf behind it
  • chrome trim and fixtures
  • a new light fixture over the tub
  • a new light and exhaust fan over the shower
  • new light fixtures over each of our sinks
  • new framed mirrors over each of our sinks
  • a new toilet in the water closet
  • smooth ceilings (I asked the contractor about the best way to get the popcorn down. I figured that as long as they had the bathroom ripped apart, Jeff and I could scrape the ceiling and get it ready for paint. But when I asked the contractor, he scraped a little of it and said they would do it for us. Even better!)
To save some money, Jeff and I are going to paint the room. The ceiling will be white, and the walls will be either a gray-green or gray-blue. We want a beachy look. We plan to hang some of our beach photos in there.

Here are some pictures of the room in progress:
