Biscuit can be a fickle creature. He likes things the way he likes them. He's not obsessive or anything, but sometimes it takes some finagling to get things done or changed.
I know exactly where he gets that from, which means that I try to be as understanding as I can while explaining to him that things can't always go his way.
Some things are non-negotiable. Things like ... if you want dinner, you'll eat what I fix. Or you will take a bath every night. Or when Mama says no, that means no.
But some areas are open for discussion. Things like ... do you want a quick bath or do you want to play for a while? Or which toys do you want to take on our trip? Or do you want to take your nap in your bed or my bed?
Then there are some things that Biscuit just needs to be eased into. Things like ... trying new foods. Or dealing with major changes in his routine. Or moving into season-appropriate clothing.
I remember writing a post a long time ago, talking about how Biscuit was struggling with moving from long sleeves to short sleeves and long pants to short ones. He still struggles with it.
For some reason, the transition to having bare arms and legs is hard for Biscuit. He can't put it into words, so I'm not sure where his angst comes from. But every time the season changes, we have to ease him into changing his clothes.
Biscuit has been wearing short-sleeved T-shirts for several weeks, but today was the first time this year that he's worn shorts outside of the house. We started the process a few weeks ago when we swapped out his fall/winter clothes for his spring/summer clothes. When it's been warm on the weekends, we'll dress him in knit shorts and a T-shirt as he plays around the house. The outfit is close enough to pajamas that he's pretty chilled about it.
Then this morning, we put him in shorts to go to day care. He still calls them "beach pants," and I have no plans to correct him on it.
Here's Biscuit in his outfit for the day:
